GenealogyInTime magazine has launched a free genealogy toolbar that works with Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. Fun, easy to install, and easy to use, the toolbar sports several innovative features:
  • Direct access to a genealogy search engine that searches for free records on over 500 genealogy websites.
  • Lists new genealogy records on the internet.
  • Provides a unique blog feed to over 100 popular genealogy bloggers. Included are such favourites as Eastman’s Online Genealogy Newsletter, Dear Myrtle, Geneabloggers, Footnote Maven, The Genealogy Guys, Scottish Genes and Anglo-Celtic Connections to name just a few.
  • Links to website resources and major government websites containing free ancestral records.
  • Access to Google gmail.
  • A meter with website statistics.

From the beginning genealogist to the seasoned professional, this toolbar has features that will appeal to a wide audience. Sometimes the best things in life are free.

Some background

  • Make sure you are using Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox before you attempt to download the toolbar.
  • The toolbar was designed in concert with Alexa (the internet traffic people). Alexa uses the data gathered from the toolbar to help determine the popularity of various websites. You can easily opt out of this feature if you do not want your vote to count. Simply click on the Options button (the button on the far right of the toolbar – it looks like a gear) and then uncheck the box labelled “Send button usage statistic to Alexa”.
