Memory-Sharing Platform Helps Missouri Families Digitize Photo And Video Collections For The Holidays
On November 19, 1000memories.com, maker of the popular Shoebox iPhone app, will be hosting "How to Go Home" att the Midwest Genealogy Center.
The free event will include unlimited scanning of photos and videos, a "show & tell" of great old photographs, and a short class on uncovering family stories hidden in your shoebox. It is open to the public and will run from 1-4PM at the Midwest Genealogy Center at 3440 S. Lee’s Summit Road in Independence, MO.
Launching the week before Thanksgiving, How to Go Home will show participants how they can make family photo sharing a big part of their holiday. “It’s a time when families are together with the the people who remember the stories and people behind the photographs” says Mike Katchen, director of business development at 1000memories. “That’s why it’s so important to take advantage of holidays to share these stories and save them for future generations”.
With the recent launch of the Shoebox app for iPhone, it will be easier than ever for families to digitize their photos and stories over the holidays. Shoebox can auto-detect the edges of a photo and then quickly crop and straighten accordingly. Users can then add information typically written on the back of old photos - such as dates, names, and locations - before uploading to 1000memories.com, where it can be organized, shared and discovered by friends and family.
Backed by Y-Combinator and Greylock Partners, 1000memories is a hybrid of today’s family history and photo-sharing sites, with a focus helping individuals, families and organizations record, discover and preserve the photos of the past - and all of the stories that come with them.
