Johnson County Genealogical Society will host Ken Leonard, a speaker and instructor specializing in genealogy and American history. Ken is the former editor of the JCGS Quarterly publication, The Genealogist. He teaches for the Johnson County Parks and Recreation Fifty Plus program.
Having spent his work career searching court houses for real estate documents and right-of-way acquisitions, Ken knows land records! He has been involved in genealogy research for over fifteen years. In this class he will trace the history of the homesteading movement with an emphasis on how to obtain copies of the original homestead application files and the treasure trove of information that you can find in those records.
Join us and learn about the homesteading process and the record resources that are available to further your genealogical research.
Visitors are always welcome at our meetings. Come join us to celebrate our 40th year!
