Goodwin’s New York City’s Municipal Archives Guide is an Award Winner

NYG&B author Aaron Goodwin receives the 2017 NGS Award for Excellence: Genealogical Methods and Sources from the National Genealogical Society.

NEW YORK, NY – The New York Genealogical and Biographical Society (NYG&B) is celebrating the recognition of Aaron Goodwin, author of the NYGYB’s New York City Municipal Archives: An Authorized Guide for Family Historians by the National Genealogical Society (NGS). GOODWIN received the Award for Excellence: Genealogical Methods and Sources from NGS last week for the groundbreaking guide to New York City’s archives published by the NYG&B last year. The award, which is given each year for a “specific, significant single contribution…that serves to foster scholarship and/or advances or promotes excellence in genealogy,” recognizes the quality of his work and the importance of the publication’s mission to make the records of New York City’s Municipal Archives more accessible to researchers.

New York City Municipal Archives: An Authorized Guide for Family Historians spotlights numerous collections that assist researchers in discovering and preserving the stories of New York’s families – both past and present. The work was commissioned by the NYG&B in 2015 and since its release has benefited thousands of researchers across the country as they prepare to visit one of the world’s largest municipal archives.

This award was also given to the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society last year for the New York Family History Research Guide and Gazetteer, a monumental 800+ page essential reference work for anyone tracing New York families. Together with Goodwin’s New York City Municipal Archives: An Authorized Guide for Family Historians the publications are the latest editions to the NYG&B’s Research Guide series and are now back-to-back winners, recognized for “excellence in genealogy.”

“Congratulations to Aaron and the entire NYG&B team for this remarkable accomplishment,” remarked D. Joshua Taylor, president of the NYG&B. “For two years in a row NYG&B publications have been recognized for a leading role in discovering, sharing, and preserving the stories of New York’s families, and we look forward to continuing that mission for many years to come.”

In celebration of the award, the NYG&B is offering complimentary shipping on new orders for New York City Municipal Archives: An Authorized Guide for Family Historians through June 1, 2017. Copies can be ordered directly through the NYG&B at www.newyorkfamilyhistory.org
